Thanksgiving
Traditions

Sadly, Thanksgiving is
quickly becoming the forgotten holiday. The traditional story has been
modified and sanitized in our society to remove God as much as possible,
however that does not have to be the case in your family. I heard about
this tradition a couple of years ago, and cannot remember who should
receive the credit.
When cooking the corn,
remove enough kernels of corn to place three on each plate around the
dinner table. Then, as you sit down to eat and before saying grace, take
turns and each person name three things from this past year for which
they want to thank God, one for each kernel of corn. This tradition will
lead each of us in being thankful for things that matter, and will focus
our thoughts on the One to whom we should be thankful: God. After
everyone is finished thanking God, say grace, then fill your plates and
your bellies. May God richly bless your family this coming year. (11/21/1999)
