Outdoor Dating

by Larry E. Quicksall

As the weather begins to turn a bit colder we often think that outdoor activities are over until the spring. Not so! Pick a lunch hour or weekend when the weather is more cooperative and take a walk through a park or woods with your spouse. Pack along coats, hot chocolate in a thermos, and a blanket and drive yourselves to a favorite park or wooded area. Many of us who lived near woods while growing up will begin recalling childhood memories of running through the wintry woods, collecting nuts, and building forts. It may remind us of college days when we sat on cold bleachers and drank hot chocolate while cheering on our alma mater. It may remind us of our dating days when we walked together and picnicked and planned our lives together. When we share our memories and stories with our spouse we can create a unique kind of bonding that often only occurs when we break from routine activities and do something different together. So, before January's icy blast hits, take a walk with your spouse and enjoy the time together. Make a date of it! (11/28/1999)
