Make
Some Quiet Time

As mid-January hits with its cold and
uncomfortable weather, we find ourselves spending more and more time
inside rather than outside. Rather than asking the question, "What
am I going to watch on TV tonight?" ask yourself, "What can I
do that will strengthen my marital relationship?" Hummm...., how
about turning on the radio, making some flavored tea or hot chocolate
with a leftover candy cane melting in it, and dreaming with your spouse
about what you want to do this spring once the weather starts getting
better? Or dreaming about a summer vacation? Or where you want your
marriage to be in five years?
Another TV alternative for married
couples is to go to the library and borrow a book on cassette and listen
to it over the course of one or two evenings. You can pick any type of
book whether it be marital growth or simply fun fiction. Some books are
turned into dramatic radio series similar to the old-time radio
programs, and can be a lot of fun. So get out of the TV rut and take
advantage of the weather that gives marriages the opportunity to grow. (01/16/2000)
